The Hansen family - How to make a book with Steidl
“Fuck the midtones”… Gerhard Steidl, a producer of print products just as unique as his production company. His legendary, unconditional obsession with his trade has led him to become the publisher of choice for an A list of artists that include Martin Parr, Ed Ruscha, Robert Adams, Jeff Wall and Robert Frank among others.
Gereon Wetzel and Jörg Adolph followed Gerhard Steidl around the world for a year and the outcome is the film ‘How to make a book with Steidl’ (see the trailer above). via The Hansen family

“when you’re famous and say you’re writing a book, people assume that it’s an autobiography — i was born here, raised there, suffered this, loved that, lost it all, got it back, the end. but that’s not what this is. i’ve never been a linear thinker, which is something you can see in my rhymes. they follow the jumpy logic of poetry and emotion, not the straight line of careful prose. my book is like that, too.” - jay-z | via pieratt brain pickings

Music by Ben Folds and Lyrics by Nick Hornby

Video by Justin Owens/Julius Preite/Sarah Owens/Ian MacRitchie
We had three weeks to concept, illustrate, shoot, animate and edit, a video for a four minute song. All while keeping our day jobs.
Julius came up with the characters and the concept then drew like the wind… into the nights.
As he drew I came up with the strategy of how to get this thing done, a little stop motion, a lot of after effects, a ton of work.
The end result is clean, sweet and compliments the song very nicely. Ben is happy, we are happy. Hope you like it.
